Climate campaigners in Sheffield are celebrating after Liberal Democrats on the Council signed up to the 10:10 campaign to cut carbon emissions by 10% during 2010. But Sheffield Labour Party's position on climate change is in disarray after Labour councillors voted against the 10:10 pledge.

Councillor Paul Scriven, Liberal Democrat Leader of the Council, was not impressed at Labour's decision.

"Labour claim on their leaflets that they will sign up to the 10:10 campaign. Now they have abandoned this pledge.

"This speaks volumes about what Labour politicians will say and do to get elected and what they actually do when they're in power.

"Thanks to the Liberal Democrats, we can now instruct this Council to find ways to cut its CO2 emissions by 10% by the end of 2010. That is a very good thing."
