Lib Dems working for happy end to St Lukes saga

12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Thu 4th Sep 2008

The Liberal Democrat Sheffield City Council are set to call for the Council to unite over plans to resolve the long running saga over the relocation of St Luke's Hospice. After winning control of the Council and blocking any development on Graves Park, the Lib Dems have successfully negotiated with St Luke's Hospice to look at other sites. A site has been identified on the former Bluestones School near Norfolk Park and a report seeking approval has been passed.

Cllr Paul Scriven, Liberal Democrat Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: -

"We will be calling for the whole Council to unite around the positive solution the Lib Dems are putting forward. We support the excellent services that St Luke's Hospice provides to local people but we also want to protect our local parks. Therefore I'm delighted that we have managed to find a plan that satisfies all sides."

"We will be directly appealing to the Labour Group to drop their opposition. We want to see to the whole Council unite behind a happy ending to the St Luke's saga. Its time to put party politics aside so that we can all move forward for the benefit of Sheffield."
